(Model letter) Written response to an IELTS Task 1 question seen 31 March 2012 in Dubai, UAE

Write a letter to your college’s administration department complaining about the college’s facilities.

In your letter include:

  • -what the problem is
  • -how this problem has affected you
  • -what the college should do to fix this problem

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a third year history student and am writing to you regarding a problem I regularly encounter when I visit the assignment submission desk in the Lorne Building.

Although the Lorne Building is a beautiful and historical campus landmark, it as of yet does not provide access to disabled students.  As the assignment submission desk is on the ninth floor of the building, my classmate, who is in a wheelchair, is unable to access it.  This means that whenever he wishes to hand in an assignment, he must request a classmate do it for him.  This, as I am sure you can understand, is both tedious and embarrassing for him.

My friend is much too proud to contact you directly, so I am writing on his behalf.  I am requesting that you promptly alter this building in a manner that allows disabled students to access college resources as conveniently as everyone else.  Perhaps this could best be accomplished through the installation of an elevator.

I look forward to hearing back from you soon.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am a third year history student and am writing this letter to bring to your attention about lack of amenities in college’s city campus.

Until quite recently, I was pleased with various facilities. These helped me a lot during previous assignments. However, since past few weeks, I have noticed that large numbers of computers in laboratory are not in working condition. On number of occasions, I have found them in maintenance mode. This situation is annoying and frustrating as due to non-availability of machines, I am not able to gather required information well in time. Thus, I left far behind in course schedule.

I urge concerned department to allocate skilled resource and required budget to repair all computers in one go. I strongly believe that by temporary shutting down research facility for a one week to carry out maintenance work will bring convenience to all students.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your concern and I look forward to your response.

    Yours faithfully,
    Vishal

If I write a letter on this topic, my response will be as follows. Mr. Rayan i need your comments please.
    Dear Sir,
I am a first year student of M.C.A (Master of Computer Application) evening classes and am writing to you regarding a problem I mostly encounter when I go to library.
Although Maulana Azad Library is a quite spacious and academicaly populor land mark, but still it does not provide all resources to evening classe students. As you know, whenever I go to library only a reading room of under graduate courses is open, which is not good enough for everyone. This, I am quiet sure you can understand this undue situation can have a detrimental effect on the academic goals of all students.
What I am hoping that you would take a prompt action to help students as a whole. Perhaps, this problem could properly be solved by opening all the three reading rooms during evening classes.
I look forward to hearing back from you soon. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
    Yours Faithfully,
    Ziaul Huda.
